ABSTRACT

Background: Barabanki one of the most populous districts of Uttar Pradesh with population growth rate being much higher than the national population growth rate. The objective of this study was to gain the knowledge about awareness and contraceptive practices in married women residing in Barabanki. To identify socio-demographic factors associated with unmet needs for contraceptionand also to ascertain the participation of husband in family planning. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in outpatient department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Department of Pediatrics in Medical college hospital in Barabanki. 144 females were enrolled in the study during the study period of one year. They were interviewed on the basis of a pre-structured proforma. Data obtained was then analyzed. Results: A total 144 women in the age group 18-45 years participated in the study of which 53% had knowledge of contraception. More than two thirds were not using any form of contraception. The most common method of contraception was barrier method followed by Depot medroxy progesterone acetate. Copper T was least used mode of contraception. The most common source of knowledge regarding contraception was from electronic media followed by friends and family. The most common reason behind the absence of contraception was lack of knowledge of contraception and husband disapproval. Conclusions: Poor knowledge of contraception led to decreased usage of contraceptive measures. Husband participation is virtually absent in family planning leading to high fertility. In order to make our family planning programs successful we must incorporate media for wider coverage to increase awareness and husbands for better implementation.

ABSTRACT

This study was designed to investigate the antioxidant activity of A1 and A2 β-casein variant with time by applying different enzyme. Pepsin, Trypsin, Alcalase and combination of Pepsin-Trypsin were used for hydrolysis of A1 and A2 β-casein for the duration of 1, 2, 3 and 24 h. All antioxidant parameter including DPPH, ABTS radical-scavenging activity and reducing power assay increasing gradually with time. Enzyme Pepsin-Trypsin combination followed by Alcalsae display comparatively higher antioxidant activity. Among β-casein variant A2 showed relatively higher antioxidant potential over all the entire duration of time but the difference among the A1 and A2 variants was not significant to arrive at a substantial scientific conclusion. It can be concluded from the study that antioxidant potential of the milk depends upon factors such as duration of hydrolysis and enzyme used, during hydrolysis and not alone on the fact that whether the milk is A1 or A2 in nature.

ABSTRACT

Lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) is an uncommon type of odontogenic cyst of developmental origin that typically occurs laterally on the root surface of a tooth. They are frequently located in the mandibular premolar area followed by the anterior region of the maxilla. It is usually asymptomatic and is discovered on a routine radiograph. The involved teeth are usually vital. Although the occurrence of lateral periodontal cyst is rare, the precision of its diagnosis is necessary so that the correct treatment can be established. The features of a LPC can be easily confused with a odontogenic keratocyst and radicular cyst

ABSTRACT

Noise, a modern day curse of advancing infrastructure and technology, has emerged as an important public health problem. Exposure to noise during pregnancy may result in high-frequency hearing loss in newborns, growth retardation, cochlear damage, prematurity and birth defects. Newborns exposed to sound above 45 decibels may experience increase in blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate; decreased oxygen saturation; and increased caloric consumption. Noise exposure in older children may result in learning disabilities, attention difficulties, insulin resistance, hypertension, stress ulcers and cardiovascular diseases. Sudden exposure to loud noise can lead to rupture of eardrum. The damaging effects of noise pollution are more noticeable in large metropolitan cities, the hubs of urban settlements and industrial growth. Another concern is noise pollution inside the hospitals (particularly intensive care areas) that can lead to serious health consequences both for caregivers and for children. The issue needs to be addressed by both researchers and policy makers on an urgent basis.
